Dolphins & Angels Sailing Adventure
The Flight Plan
On Blue Angels practice days, board your Orange Beach dolphin cruise for a picturesque sail to Pensacola, Florida waters. On the way, bask in the sun or relax in the shade while watching for dolphins in the warm gulf waters. Complimentary water and soft drinks, as well as fresh fruit, is offered throughout the sail. In addition, a light lunch is served at anchor while you are entertained by the mind-bending displays of flight precision. The Dolphins & Angels Cruise is a six-hour sail.
2014 Blue Angels Homecoming Show
About the Blues
The Blue Angels were established in 1946 by Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, with the first air show being held that same year in Jacksonville, Florida. The original team named the squadron when they were planning a show in New York; a pilot came across the name of the city’s famous Blue Angel nightclub in the New Yorker magazine.
An estimated 11 million spectators view the squadron each year in air shows. Throughout the life of the program, there have been 251 demonstration pilots and 35 flight leaders. Each pilot must complete 120 training flights during winter training to perform a public demonstration. Among their formations is the amazing Diamond 360 maneuver, in which the pilots will fly as close as 18 inches to each other’s planes.
